Last weekend was a special one, in a special place.

I went to spend it with my cousin, in the village where he grew up and where I spent holidays as a youngster. He’s just a few months younger than me.

A couple of summers ago I was there when he took delivery of a new boat. It was September and windy, so it didn’t get into the water until the next spring.

This trip I was hoping to get a wee sail in it. I’m not much use as crew, but then his experience makes up for that.

I arrived in the village about 5pm on a very warm July Friday, after a 3 hour drive from the south. He was on the boat, and I was invited aboard for a quick refreshment.

Yes, well. Dinner came along about 9pm.

Saturday afternoon was a bit short on wind. We had to use the engine. Still great fun.

Sunday afternoon, we had too much wind. We could only use the two wee sails. Handling the mainsail would have needed a crew with much greater strength in depth.

More great fun.

When’s the next trip?
