Dundee

Cool

Occasionally I ponder the meaning of life – as in what constitutes a “trip” worth blogging about.

Is it a matter of distance? Does it involve an overnight stay?

Almost any way I look at it, my trip to Dundee this month qualifies because it involved an overnight stay. Dundee is only 32 miles (51 km) from my home, but the reason for my visit was to watch my son play ice hockey and it was a 23:00 face off.

St Andrews v Edinburgh

I had to choose between driving home at 00:30 (with work at 9am) and making the drive the next morning in daylight. After I looked at hotel prices I made my choice. I booked in at the Sleeperz Hotel. £60 – including VAT but not breakfast.

It was a good decision. I had a good – but short – sleep and then an enjoyable breakfast before checkout at 7:45. The hotel is newly opened in the last few weeks, and built above the new railway station. The brand is new to me as well, and they seem to have just a handful of other properties.

I liked it, and it was excellent value for money. The location is ideal for the city centre and various places a visitor might want to take in, not least the new V&A Museum.

Junior’s team won its game 9-5 against St Andrews University – the main rival for the league title – so it all turned out very well!

I guess I could read this on Blip and give a star.
But for a change will also give it a heart on Twitter!
