My trip to Whitehaven last summer (2024) stimulated my interest in a part of England I knew nothing about. This year Barrow-in-Furness was my destination.
Rugby was the name of the game, again, with Toulouse Olympique’s visit to Barrow Raiders being my focus. It was almost a repeat of 2024’s adventure, but Barrow is about an hour further south – right at the southern tip of Cumbria.

Barrow shows signs of having seen better days just as Whitehaven does, but that would apply to many places in the northern half of England. I enjoyed myself anyway.

The weather was good. I chose a pleasant place to stay. I had a lovely dinner out, and a great wee lunch too. I trundled around a local Parkrun, and the rugby was excellent. TO XIII won, but it was close until the last 10 minutes.

Apart from it being a 4 hour drive each way, it was all very enjoyable.
