Best of 2015 (part 5)

Sport now…

I didn’t have any trips this year which were purely sport focussed, unless you count travel to York, Newcastle and London for meetings about ice hockey. Meetings aren’t sport are they?

The possibility of seeing some ice hockey was a factor in choosing Helsinki as a destination in September. The game – HIFK v KalPa – was the icing on the cake.

Lovely city.

I managed a few games at ERC Ingolstadt while on my monthly visits to Gaimersheim. Like Helsinki, they weren’t the reason for the travel – just a wee bonus. Seeing Braehead play at Ingolstadt felt a bit weird, but it was fun.

Carcassonne? Going to see a rugby match there was one of the main things behind my week in Toulouse in March. I loved it. So many memories came flooding back. Of course I’d have been happy to spend a week there without rugby!

In fact that could be on the agenda for 2016 – Toulouse outside the rugby season, when the weather’s better!

Apart from these, it was just sports events close to home – Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee. Watching Ingolstadt playing (ice hockey) at Braehead (in Glasgow) was weird, but fun.

Horse racing in Ireland or France is always on my wish list, but it all depends on the right event coming up at the right time and when I can get flights at a sensible price. Another one for 2016?
